CAHFT Twelfth Annual Back-To-School Drive

The Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas (CAHFT) will celebrate its Twelfth (12th) Annual Back-To-School Drive, benefiting underserved, economically disadvantaged students in the Caribbean and in particular, the island-nation of Saint Lucia. Our partner in the first years of the School Drive in Saint Lucia was the then Soufriere Public Library Librarian Ms. Catherine Prospere (retired, 2018); she and her staff have held annual hand-over ceremonies at the Library, ensuring that the students received our donation of school supplies.

Ms. Prospere had the pulse of her community and has been instrumental in assisting CAHFT in identifying the students most in need of assistance as they strive for excellence in their education. She showed genuine care and concern for these eager young minds and endeavored to do whatever she can to assist them, through her partnership with CAHFT and through her own efforts, in their quest to achieve their academic goals. The Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas is forever grateful for her assistance in our Annual School Supplies Drives these many years. She has been extremely gracious and her efforts are very much appreciated. Thank you, Ms. Prospere.

Over the past eleven (11) years, CAHFT typically send 3-5 55-gallon barrels contained over 2,300 items including over 400 notebooks and more than 560 No. 2 pencils the Saint Lucia and other Caribbean islands during our Annual School Drive. Other items in the barrels included pens, pencils, crayons and pencil sharpeners. CAHFT continue to do our part to assist the future leaders of Saint Lucia and the Caribbean achieve their educational goals and objectives by donating these much needed school supplies to these underserved communities.

Our Annual Back-To-School drive supports the United Nations Sustainable Goal 4: Quality Education - "Obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people's lives and sustainable development. Major progress has been made towards increasing access to education at all levels and increasing enrolment rates in schools particularly for women and girls." Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas - Annual Back-To-School Drive

Over the last 4 years alone, CAHFT donated a combined total of over 10,000 school supplies items including notebooks, backpacks, pens, pencils and erasers to assist students in school both in Saint Lucia and in the Caribbean islands.

As we embark on our Twelfth (12th) Annual Back-To-School Drive, it is our hope to raise funding to double our efforts: we endeavor to send over 20,000 school supplies items to the Caribbean for the 2018-2019 school year. But we need your help. Will you consider donating to our Eighth Annual Back-To-School campaign? A donation of as little as $25 can purchase up to 50 composition notebooks.

In 2017, CAHFT participated in the Soufriere Public Library's 2017 Children's Summer Program. The Program will include but not limited to: arts and crafts; a technology day; performing arts events; field trips; community projects; fun activities such as sports and games, a quiz competition and much more. It was a distinct honor to donate, design and print sixty (60) t-shirts, with a logo on the front depicting the library's name and images symbolizing some of the events the student will partake in during the Program. On the back, a simple slogan reminding us that we are One People, One Country. In 2017, The Foundation also donated over 20 backpacks to deserving students in the Caribbean.

Through our Annual Back-To-School Drive, The Caribbean American Heritage has partnered with schools in the Caribbean to provide some of the resources necessary to create the future leaders of the Caribbean, including Saint Lucia. Our program continues to target underserved economically disadvantaged student who have abilities to strive and create excellence in their academic lives. Please consider donating to this year's campaign and assisting us in helping these young bright minds achieve their goals and objectives.
